The Starter Kit from Young Living is one of my absolutely FAVORITE ways to get started (see why it’s aptly named?) with essential oils.
Why? What makes it so great?
Because this bundle is not only THE most affordable way to buy this grouping of oils (seriously, ask any oily person that’s been into oils for awhile if they’ve bought another kit… They’ll likely say yes, if not say that they’ve purchased several over the years).
So it really is THAT good of a deal!
I mean who wouldn’t want to save hundreds of dollars on oils you use and love everyday?
Anyways… today’s post is just a few ways I’d like to share with you on how I use each of the oils in the starter kit!
Here’s the 12 oils we’ll be chatting today:
- Lavender essential oil
- Frankincense essential oil
- Valor® essential oil blend
- Peace & Calming® essential oil blend
- PanAway® essential oil blend
- Stress Away™ essential oil blend
- Raven™ essential oil blend
- Peppermint Vitality
- Lemon Vitality
- DiGize™ Vitality
- Thieves® Vitality
- Citrus Fresh™ Vitality
Let’s doooo thisssss!
Lavender
Lavender is often called the “swiss army knife” of essential oils, because it’s basically good for anything and everything! It’s also a super gentle oil, so it’s a great one to use on littles and to introduce a new person to essential oils! It’s also one of my personal favorite oils of all time.
How you can use it:
- As part of your bedtime routine: either in the diffuser, applied via roller on your forehead and behind your ears, or sprayed on your pillow.
- I love to apply it on my bug bites!
- I love include in in my homemade nighttime moisturizer.
- Applied “neat” on any blemishes
- Included in a “tantrum tamer” roller for Malakai
Frankincense
Frankincense is super grounding, and personally it feels like such a holy oil. I guess because it was gifted to Jesus at his birth, so my association is that it’s a sacred oil. Smelling it just makes me feel closer to God somehow. But it is a very grounding and peaceful scent. It’s like a warm, earthy hug.
How you can use it:
- In a roller, to help calm me whenever I’m stressed.
- In a roller, applied to Malakai’s jawline whenever he’s grinding his teeth.
- Diffused during quiet time (though I’m conservative with it so I’ll usually just use a roller)
- In my evening moisturizer
- Applied to my stretch marks
Valor
Valor is often called “bravery oil” as it’s one that encourages many on important days or before important moments. It contains a blend with the beloved Blue Tansy Oils (which is what gives it that slightly blue tint).
How you can use it:
- Use as a “poor mans” blue tansy replacement in moisturizer
- Applied “neat” to wrists before a big day
- Applied in a roller whenever you’re needing a little extra courage
- Great for adding into our massage routine
Peace & Calming
If I’m being honest, when I first smelled Peace & Calming I didn’t like it and left it in my starter kit. It wasn’t until I was having a really bad day that I decided to break it out and see if it could help me have some calm vibes… and I was surprised when it worked!
It’s since become one of my favorite oils, as well as one of my husbands favorites too! It’s also one of the more expensive (though not most expensive like Blue Tansy or Rose) so we cherish it extra whenever we use it.
How you can use it:
- Diffused before bedtime as part as a calming bedtime routine
- Included in a roller for a toddler “tantrum tamer”
- Can be used in moisturizer (it also has blue tansy in it)
- Add to epsom salts for a peaceful bath time experience
- Use in a roller and applied to forehead or back of ears whenever you’re feeling stressed
- Add a drop to hand, “cup” hands over mouth and breathe deep
PanAway
PanAway essential oil is like a muscle relaxer/spa day in a bottle. It’s a must have for folks who work out, or if you like to have that mint-y spa smell in your home (or during your self care routine). This blend includes Wintergreen, clove, helichrysum and peppermint.
How you can use it:
- Use in a roller to help support head tension
- Use as part of your post workout routine
- Add to carrier oil for a deep massage
- Apply to lower back after sitting at the computer all day
Stress Away
Stress Away used to be what many used for vanilla before Young Living released their Vanilla essential oil! It’s a blend of Copaiba, Lime, Cedarwood, Vanilla, Ocotea, Lavender. Stress Away will give you serious vacation vibes! I personally love it so much that I’ll even wear it neat as a perfume!

Raven
Raven is a blend of Eucalyptus Radiata, Lemon, Peppermint, Ravintsara, and Wintergreen essential oils. It’s that perfect cool and refreshing blend that’s super invigorating!

First off you might be wondering, what’s up with the white labels? Well this is Young Living’s “vitality” line, and it makes it really easy to know which oils are safe to ingest. Peppermint Vitality (which you can choose to ingest or not) is another one of my favorite oils of all time!

Lemon essential oil is one that could potentially be overlooked… but it is a powerhouse and it’s definitely worth not ignoring! Lemon has a lot of amazing uses, from being a cleaning superpower to getting those dang sticky stickers off of surfaces, to being super cleansing and refreshing. This is another favorite that I love to have on hand always!

DiGize Vitality
DiGize™ essential oil blend combines Tarragon, Ginger, Peppermint, Juniper, Lemongrass, Anise, and Patchouli oils for a spicy, exotic aromatic blend. It also contains Fennel essential oil, which people have used for a broad range of purposes since the ancient Egyptians. It’s personally not my favorite smelling oil blend… but what it lacks for in smell, it makes up for in ability.
How you can use it:
- Add a drop under your tongue after a big meal
- Or add to a veggie capsule after a big meal
- Use in a roller and apply to tummy for digestive support
- Bring with you when you travel and your regular eating routine is off
Thieves Vitality
A personal fave. An absolute powerhouse. A MUST essential oil (like an ESSENTIAL essential oil) for every single person and every single family. Like probably one of my top three oily favorites that I am never without. Thieves® essential oil blend is a powerful combination of Cinnamon Bark, Clove, Eucalyptus Radiata, Lemon, and Rosemary essential oils that fills any space with a rich, spicy aroma.
This blend was inspired by the legend of four 15th-century French thieves who formulated and wore a special aromatic combination of clove, rosemary, vinegar, and other botanicals that they believed provided protection while they were stealing. French authorities recognized that there was such value in this mixture that upon the thieves’ capture, they received a more merciful punishment on condition that they divulge the ingredients in their secret formula.
How you can use it:
- Diffuse for the perfect fall scent
- Diffuse to eliminate strong odors
- Add a drop to your toothpaste
- Mix with baking soda for a natural carpet cleaner
- Add a drop to hot lemon water + honey tea in the winter
- Add to veggie capsule and take daily
- Make a roller and apply to wrists and back of neck daily
- I love to roll this on Malakai’s feet every morning and evening!
- Add to wool dryer balls for a comforting laundry scent
Citrus Fresh Vitality
To me, citrus fresh is sunshine in a bottle! This is one of my favorite blends to diffuse in the morning as a perfectly happy, sunshine-y blend! This blend includes Lemon, Grapefruit, Orange, Tangerine, Mandarin, and Spearmint.
How you can use it:
