I’m so excited that y’all know about our exciting news!
In case you missed it, we announced on Instagram with this post that we’re expecting our second child! And we’re so excited!
So now that y’all know, I thought I’d share a little about how my first trimester went and a few of the “essentials” that I love having on hand to help me *survive*, I mean thrive in the first trimester 😉
So I’m really blessed with very mild symptoms, though I know that isn’t the case for everyone. But here’s the symtoms I had this time around:
- An aversion to coffee
- Aversion to strong smells (trash can and toddler poo especially)
- Lotsa’ cravings
- Mild nausea that would come and go
- A lot of stomach aches
- Complete and utter exhaustion
- Low motivation
- Crazy hormone fluctuations
- Poor sleep
- Leg cramps
Which I feel like, all-in-all, those are relatively normal “symptoms”but I thought I’d just give you a little background of where I was at!
As far as things that I loved/used, here’s my list!
Essential Oils
It probably comes at no surprise to you that I love using essential oils, and have used them a bunch during this pregnancy!
I know not everyone is comfortable using oils, so do your research and do what you’re comfortable with. Also, definitely recommend splurging on quality oils because they DO make a difference.
Also, if you’re still unsure, I really love this book written for mamas on oils, and this book that’s like an A-Z on oils for pregnancy, motherhood and babies!
As far as oils** I’ve used and loved this first trimester:
- Digize – nausea/tummy troubles
- Ginger – nausea
- Peppermint – nausea
- Purification – smells
- Tea Tree – skin
- Lavender – sleep
- Cedarwood – sleep
- Peace & Calming – hormones
** All from the Young Living company (link here to learn more)
I use more for diffusing and different things around the house, but those are the main ones I’ve used specifically in this first trimester!
Also if oils overwhelm you, or you aren’t sure how to navigate them when pregnant/nursing/with kiddos, I love these two books as resources:
Books To Read/Have
So there’s several books that I love to have on hand for pregnancy (and/or afterwards) and here they are:
- Mama Natural’s Pregnancy Book (link)
- Also her email series (not a book, but my fave series – link here)
- The Whole 9 Months (link)
- What To Eat When Pregnant (link)
- Promptly Journal (for you/baby) – (link)
- OR As You Grow Journal (link)
I chat specifically about the above things in my video, but overall I love having these books as reference/memories. Especially with my first pregnancy – but even know, it’s nice to have to “reference” when I have a question.
Magnesium
I love magnesium in pregnancy for a lot of different reasons – first off, most of us are deficient, so it’s good to get back up. Additionally, especially with this pregnancy, I always suffer with leg cramps and magnesium is GAME CHANGING for that! Also also, it can help with sleep. Also also also, it can potentially help you avoid pre-eclampsia… Which that by itself is a good enough reason for me.
BTW, I’m not a doc, so obvs talk to your people about this stuff… but based on my research and chats with my midwife, magnesium is a MUST for me whenever I’m pregnant (and realistically afterwards too).
Additional Items I Love
And then, so I don’t have a million other sub headings… here’s a few other misc items that I love to have on hand for the first trimester!
^^ The above are my daily “supplement” routine. Pretty self explanatory 🙂
Then here’s a list of random things I love during the first trimester/pregnancy:
- Traditional Medicines Tea (link)
- Pregnancy Pillow (link) — legit sleep with it when not pregnant, I love it that much. Also accidentally gave birth on it (watch the video to learn more). haha.
- Belly Band (link) — game changer if you want to wear non maternity pants (and great for support later on when you’re super preggo).
- Snacks... Oh so so many snacks bc first trimester I’m always starving.
- Huge Water Bottle – currently have this one but eyeing this one
ALSO, I personally didn’t find the “preggo pops” or ginger candies super helpful with my first, so I didn’t even try this pregnancy. But a lot of other people love them. They just weren’t my vibe.
I think that about wraps it up!
The video does a better job explaining a lot of the things specifically – though I’m happy to answer any additional questions that you might have about any of the above!
