Today’s DIY is another one that hails from the Young Living Blog, and it’s a good one. So good in fact, I say just watch this video to check it out.
Here’s the ingredients I used:
- 1/2 c Coconut Oil (link)
- 1/2 c Beeswax (link)
- 1/4 c Shea Butter (link)
- 1/4 c Cocoa Butter (link)
- I used muffin tins, but would recommend a silicone mold like this one
- Glass measuring cup, 16 oz (link)
- Kitchen Scale (optional, link)
- 15-20 drops Essential Oils (optional, link)
Steps:
- So I first measured everything out on a kitchen scale, because I find it easier with the big chunks of shea butter and cocoa butter.
- Then I put the glass measuring cup with the cocoa butter, shea butter and coconut oil in it and melted in a pot (like a double broiler situation).
- Once everything was melted (and I mean EVERYTHING is melted – I was impatient and didn’t wait for all the beeswax to melt and had some of my lotion bars turn yellow on the bottom) then you pour into your molds.
- Optional: if you’re adding in essential oils, you can either pour it into the measuring cup before you pour into the molds OR if you want different scents, pour them into the molds and THEN add your oils.
- Let dry overnight and pop out the next day!
Pro tip: I used muffin tins, and found in order to remove them from the tins, I had to use a knife and that messed with the texture and look of the bars. If I make this again, I will 10/10 buy a silicone mold so I can easily pop them out!
Another pro tip: They need to be kept at room temperature, and I would recommend putting them in a glass container. Since there is coconut oil in the ingredients, if it sits in the sun it will partially melt!
Enjoy!
